Jack and George, Volunteer Banyule Men’s Shed Supervisor
Every weekday morning at 11am, you’ll find Jack and George, Volunteer Banyule Men’s Shed Supervisors, opening the doors to the Shed in Heidelberg Heights.
As volunteer Shed Supervisors, it’s their role to ensure participants feel welcome, know how to use the equipment, and help others where required. But most importantly, Jack and George create a friendly space to have a chat and encourage others to enjoy the social aspect of the Men’s Shed. Afterall that’s why men come to the Shed.
Shed participants come to make something or fix something, get involved in projects, do some gardening, play games or just come and see who is around and what’s happening. If men have handy skills, they can share them with others, or, they can learn new skills. Shed participants can work on their own projects or they can help others work on community projects.
Having both been involved with the Shed for over 10 years, Jack openly shares that he’d “never done anything like this before” and now “The Shed’s a part of my life’’.
George reckons the Men’s Shed is a great place to meet new friends. “I enjoy the social aspect of the shed, there’s always someone to help out with a project or to chat to.’’
