Roslyn Brown, Convenor of our Banyule Diabetes Support Group has been nominated for the Diabetes Victoria Inaugural ‘Outstanding Contribution – Lived Experience with Diabetes Award’
The purpose of this award is to recognise a Victorian living with diabetes who has made a meaningful contribution over time to improve the lives of other Victorians affected by, or at risk of, diabetes.
Roslyn was diagnosed with diabetes over 30 years ago and has been active in the diabetes community ever since. Most notably, she has been involved with the Banyule Diabetes Support Group. Supporting the group extensively since the early ’90s in a volunteer capacity, where she has taken up numerous roles including treasurer, co-convenor and currently is the group’s convenor, monthly newsletter editor and during COVID-19 a vital social support and connector for the members.
The monthly newsletter has provided familiar connection for group members throughout lockdown via the sharing of news, diabetes friendly recipes, birthday celebrations and jokes. Our Diabetes Support Group is looking forward to getting together next year and planning future guest speakers for their monthly meetings.
Your Diabetes Victoria nomination is well deserved Roslyn, we thank you for your commitment to volunteering and for sharing your lived experiences with community members.
