Building the next generation of leaders!

July 29, 2025 · News

Now in its second year, our Healthy Schools Initiative helps young people to lead change and take action against gender-based violence. Sessions take place at a number of local schools and end with a student-led project.

2024 highlights included:

  • 125 students engaged across 4 schools
  • A continued partnership with Sexual Health Victoria and Brother Nature
  • Diverse student-led projects including:
    • School culture and environment: Designed inclusive lunchtime activities and produced a rap song on school values and respect
    • Community partnerships: Created merchandise for a Week Without Violence charity stall
    • Teaching and learning: Audited and updated library books to challenge gender stereotypes

Results showed:

  • 80%+ students felt more confident to lead, take action on gender equality, and be upstanders/ active bystanders
  • 70%+ students said the program boosted wellbeing and project leadership skills
  • 100% of schools improved inclusion and safety
  • 75% of schools created safe spaces and consistently challenged discrimination

In 2025, we’ve expanded the program to 110 students across four new schools, meaning we have now worked with a total of 235 students! With sessions delivered in Term 2, students will now launch projects in Terms 3 and 4 to spark positive change. We can’t wait to share updates and outcomes!

Thank you to all the students, teachers and schools who have made Healthy Schools Initiative possible.
