Banyule Community Health and Merri Community Health are merging!

Community, clients, and staff are set to benefit from new opportunities into the future, after members of both organisations unanimously voted to merge this week.

A new Board has been appointed to lead the merged ‘New Organisation,’ and has elected Tass Mousaferiadis as Chair.

Tass is an experienced Director and Board Chair, with a distinguished career in government, not for profits, public health, and the social policy sector. Community health is a passion for Tass, and he is excited by this new opportunity.

“I am delighted to lead the board and build on the 50-year history of two great organisations becoming one. The new board is focussed on continuing to deliver high quality services and engaging closely with the community over the coming months,” Tass Mousaferiadis, Board Chair.

“Our combined skills, resources and deep experience will improve services and health outcomes for communities, increase our advocacy and strengthen our ability to respond to the challenges of the changing health and social care sector.”

The new Board has commenced the process to appoint a permanent CEO of the new entity. Tassia Michaleas, Merri Health CEO will act as the interim CEO until the permanent role is appointed. Michael Geary will continue as CEO of Banyule Community Health.

Together, Tassia and Michael will continue to lead their organisations through the transition and are firmly committed to the successful merger integration.

Community, clients, members, and volunteers will soon be invited to help develop a new name and brand that honours the history of both organisations and represents our shared vision for the future.

“Together, we are stronger. We will continue to provide our current services, delivered by the same trusted people, from our existing locations, with a focus on greater capacity to grow into the future,” Michael Geary, CEO Banyule Community Health.

“The strategic contribution from the two boards over the past 18 months has ensured that the future is bright, and we’re excited about the positive impact we will make together!” Tassia Michaleas, CEO Merri Health.

We will continue to provide our communities with regular updates on our exciting next steps.
