The Peer Connection Program is delivered by volunteers who have had a personal experience of gambling harm and recovery.
Being a Peer Connection volunteer has multiple benefits:
- Use your lived experience of gambling harm to help others
- Enhance your own wellbeing and the wellbeing of the people you support
- Learn new skills
- Become part of a supportive volunteer team.
To become a Peer Connection volunteer you:
- Have successfully recovered from a gambling problem or have dealt with the impacts of someone else’s gambling
- Have excellent listening and communication skills
- Are non-judgemental and able to empathise with others
- Are able to work a weekly or fortnightly shift (about 3 hours – day or evening).
- Can commit for a minimum of one year
- Can complete the Peer Connection training
Volunteers also have to be willing to obtain a police check.
