BCH staff and community members took the opportunity to share morning tea in celebration of NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC week is held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
In 2018, NAIDOC week is particularly celebrating the strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and communities under the theme “Because of her, we can”. BCH currently employs Aboriginal Health Workers to provide support to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. The workers can assist with chronic diseases, managing legal issues, mental health and wellbeing and helping families with young children to access health services. BCH proudly works with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members and Banyule City Council at the vibrant community gathering space – Babarrbunin Beek.
